The HPE 781518-B21 is a 1.2TB Enterprise SAS drive for HPE ProLiant servers: 10,000 RPM, 12Gb/s SAS, installed in HPE’s SmartCarrier (SC) hot-plug tray. One of the most widely used ProLiant drives of the Gen9 era, it fits SFF bays in Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 servers. The spare part number is 781578-001.

Does it include a drive tray?
Yes. It comes installed in an HPE SmartCarrier (SC) hot-plug tray, ready for an SFF drive bay.

Is 781518-B21 the same as 781578-001?
Yes. 781518-B21 is HPE’s option (retail) number and 781578-001 is the spare (service) number for the same 1.2TB 10K SAS drive.

How is it different from the 872479-B21?
Both are 1.2TB 10K 12G SAS SFF drives in SC trays. The 781518-B21 is the earlier Enterprise version launched with Gen9; the 872479-B21 is the later Mission Critical version. Both fit the same Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10 bays.

Will it work in a Gen11 server?
No. Gen11, Gen12, Gen10 Plus v2 and the DL360/DL380 Gen10 Plus use Basic Carrier (BC) trays, which this SmartCarrier drive does not fit.
